The Marketing Ninjas here at OnLive are fired up for Labor Day weekend! This year we’re bringing instant gaming to the Penny Arcade Expo in Seattle (PAX). It’s our first time participating at a non-industry show which means we’ll be enjoying face time with actual gamers, many of which are already proud members of the OnLive Game Service. We’re also excited to introduce the Game Service to thousands of PAX attendees who haven’t checked it out yet.

We’ll be at Booth #3446 playing all the latest releases on the OnLive Game Service, ranging from Mafia II to LEGO® Batman™: The Videogame. But we’ve also got a few more reasons why you might want to stop by…

#1. Get Groovy Swag

OnLive Founding Members who stop by the Founding Member desk in the booth will get a free swag bag, including goodies like t-shirts, 50% off PlayPass coupons, and some surprise extras. It’s limited to the first 500 people each day who stop by, so get there early! If you’re not yet a Founding Member, sign up for a free 1-year membership here, or you can also sign up free at the OnLive PAX booth.*

#2. Engage in Friendly Competition

OnLive and THQ will be holding Red Faction: Guerrilla Total Chaos contests every day of the show for PAX attendees. We’ll be tweeting out the Player Tags and scores of the tournament leaders throughout the day to @onlivecommunity. An hour before the show closes each day, the final winner with the highest score will be announced. The winner gets a sweet new Logitech Rumble Gamepad F510, a free Full PlayPass for THQ’s Darksiders, and a limited edition Red Faction: Armageddon t-shirt. Runners up will each score a Red Faction: Armageddon t-shirt.

#3. Get a Golden Ticket to Win Insane Prizes

We shocked the crowds at E3 with it and now we’re crazy enough to do it again—the OnLive Golden Ticket Event. Stop by our booth from 10 AM to 4 PM any day of PAX to “Just Play” your favorite games on the OnLive Game Service. While you’re there, pick up a Golden Ticket. The more you play, the better your chances to win. We’ll have a drawing each day at 4:15 PM to see who will get 10 FREE Full PlayPasses to the OnLive games of their choice, along with a custom Astro A30 gaming headset.

So bring your skills and your friends and swing by our booth. We can’t wait to introduce everyone to the instant gaming experience.

Hope to see you in Seattle!

Mafia II—an offer you can’t refuse

Posted in OnLive 2010 with tags , , , , , , , , on August 21, 2010 by John Spinale

Paesan,

A big release is coming next week. Mafia II by 2K Games launches on Tuesday, and you can get it on day one (at 12:01 a.m. PT on minute one, to be exact). For the launch, we’re offering OnLive members any other OnLive game for free with the purchase of a Full PlayPass for Mafia II between August 24 and August 29.

The original Mafia was incredible and Mafia II promises to be even better. The game is set in the 1950s in the fictional city of Empire Bay, and tells the story of Vito, a war vet who works his way up the ranks of a crime syndicate. It’s open-world play with tons of action–gun battles, hand-to-hand fighting, driving and chasing–and amazing visuals. You’ll be among the first to jump into Empire Bay and make your mark thanks to OnLive’s instant-play capability.

Really looking forward to seeing some Mafia II Brag Clip™ videos from all of you. I’m sure you’ll get creative with this one…

Arrivederci,

— John Spinale

Get Kane & Lynch 2: Dog Days—with a FREE GAME Kicker!

Posted in OnLive 2010 with tags , , , , , , , , , , on August 16, 2010 by John Spinale

We’re psyched to let you know that something special is brewing this week. Kane & Lynch 2: Dog Days, the gritty cinematic buddy-game, is coming to the OnLive Game Service this Tuesday, August 17, precisely at 12:01 AM PDT. In conjunction with this new release, we’re running a sweet promotion that you won’t want to miss out on. If you purchase a Kane & Lynch 2: Dog Days Full PlayPass before Monday, August 23 you’ll receive a FREE GAME on the OnLive Game Service.

Log in on Tuesday and start playing Kane & Lynch 2: Dog Days instantly, long before anyone else can remove the shrink wrap from the box. It’s from one of my favorite developers, IO Interactive in Copenhagen, and it’s amazing. The graphics and cinematography are killer. The storyline is engrossing. The action unrelenting.

To kill the time between now and then, check out the trailer here.

Enjoy this one, but stay tuned. There are more hot new releases to come as we gear up for fall!

Featured Game: Just Cause 2

Posted in OnLive 2010 with tags , , , , , , , , , , on August 5, 2010 by John Spinale

Ever since we started talking about OnLive, one of the main things our platform has promised is the ability to play super high-end games on a broad spectrum of lower end machines, and today we’re featuring a great example of just that.

Since we launched the OnLive Game Service in June, one of our most popular titles has been Just Cause 2 published by the folks over at Square Enix and developed by the talented guys at Avalanche Studios in Stockholm. And for good reason. The game remains one of 2010’s highest rated titles and has tons of replay value.

Reminiscent of GTA, the open sandbox environment and variable play styles take things to the next level and spawns seemingly endless opportunities to experience the game each time it is instantly loaded by OnLive. Additionally, the graphics are mind-blowing, because everything’s procedurally rendered (…and if you don’t know what that means, don’t sweat it, just check out some of the videos, they look truly amazing!).

However, all this expanse and graphic detail has its price and that generally means you need a high-end, up-to-date system to play it. No more. While the retail version requires DX-10 compatible machines, when played on the OnLive service, the game runs very well on most average PCs and laptops. Additionally, many of our current players are Mac fanatics who, previously, had no way to access this great experience on their machines. Have at it, Mac-lovers!

Speaking more to these opportunities, as well as the amazing success of the game itself, are Mike Oldman, Community Manager, and Chris Dillon, Producer, of Just Cause 2 in the OnLive-exclusive video below. Click the start overlay to begin the video.

We hope you’ll join us soon to experience the magic of OnLive by becoming a part of our growing Just Cause 2 community.

Finally, and thanks to the generosity of our friends at AT&T, we’ve extended the Founding Members Program through Labor Day so if you haven’t signed up yet, be sure to do so today by clicking here.

Enjoy!
