Featured Game: Just Cause 2

Ever since we started talking about OnLive, one of the main things our platform has promised is the ability to play super high-end games on a broad spectrum of lower end machines, and today we’re featuring a great example of just that.

Since we launched the OnLive Game Service in June, one of our most popular titles has been Just Cause 2 published by the folks over at Square Enix and developed by the talented guys at Avalanche Studios in Stockholm. And for good reason. The game remains one of 2010’s highest rated titles and has tons of replay value.

Reminiscent of GTA, the open sandbox environment and variable play styles take things to the next level and spawns seemingly endless opportunities to experience the game each time it is instantly loaded by OnLive. Additionally, the graphics are mind-blowing, because everything’s procedurally rendered (…and if you don’t know what that means, don’t sweat it, just check out some of the videos, they look truly amazing!).

However, all this expanse and graphic detail has its price and that generally means you need a high-end, up-to-date system to play it. No more. While the retail version requires DX-10 compatible machines, when played on the OnLive service, the game runs very well on most average PCs and laptops. Additionally, many of our current players are Mac fanatics who, previously, had no way to access this great experience on their machines. Have at it, Mac-lovers!

Speaking more to these opportunities, as well as the amazing success of the game itself, are Mike Oldman, Community Manager, and Chris Dillon, Producer, of Just Cause 2 in the OnLive-exclusive video below. Click the start overlay to begin the video.

We hope you’ll join us soon to experience the magic of OnLive by becoming a part of our growing Just Cause 2 community.

Finally, and thanks to the generosity of our friends at AT&T, we’ve extended the Founding Members Program through Labor Day so if you haven’t signed up yet, be sure to do so today by clicking here.

Enjoy!

  1. And still no Linux client :(
Come on! I hate having to play OnLive on my Windows machine, lol, either port over the client to Linux or at least fix it so it works in Wine.

  2. I think that in a future update, the OnLive client should definitely have an option to have 480p gameplay to support 3/4mbps connections. I truly do not mind playing Just Cause 2 in 480p, since if I were to run it on my computer (and I’ve tried), I have to set the resolution to 320×240. Now, maybe the fact is that it doesn’t matter how large or small the video stream is, but that lower speed connections introduce lag. But at least for Just Cause 2, where you won’t be affecting other players, a bit of lag might not be a huge problem. Anyway, I care so much because I was recently in Atlanta at a relative’s house and got to use OnLive. At home, my connection is 3 mbps (maybe I can upgrade to 6, but I think 3 is the maximum offered in my area). Anyway, I did have a bit of lag, but it was fine. I was just extremely happy to be playing Just Cause 2. That’s my ten cents, catch me in OnLive, my [gamertag?] is Nick. Apparently I was the first Nick to sign up for OnLive :D
