The OnLive game experience is generated in the cloud, so as a device ages, the OnLive experience remains state-of-the-art. This is extremely important for long life-cycle devices like TVs: For example, in 5 years, your OnLive-integrated VIZIO TV will still be compatible with the latest, highest-performance games.
You can see OnLive technology built into VIZIO HDTVs at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas this week. The first OnLive-integrated VIZIO products will be in stores later this year.
Also at CES, we’ll be demoing the OnLive Game Service with SRS 5.1™ Surround Sound. What’s cool about SRS 5.1 is that, like OnLive, it works compatibly across all devices. It’s compatible with both SRS and non-SRS surround sound decoders. If you only have stereo or even mono sound, you’ll still get the best audio for the setup you have. Surround sound makes for an incredibly immersive experience when playing a game on the OnLive Service: you hear sounds all around you, and as you rotate your character, the sounds rotate around the room as if you are in the game. Combined with 3D, it is mind-blowing. SRS 5.1 surround sound will be an automatic free update to all users in early 2011.
