OnLive Everywhere: HDTVs, Blu-ray Players, Tablets and Phones—and a Sale to Celebrate

This is a really special day.
In the past, you have always needed to buy and connect a console to your TV if you wanted to play the latest state-of-the-art games. No longer. Now the TV itself can deliver instant, state-of-the-art game play. No discs, downloads, or updates needed. Games start up as instantly as changing channels, and you can spectate games in the Arena just as you surf through live TV content. No hassles. Just play.
Today, we’re happy to announce that the OnLive® Game Service will be integrated into new VIZIO® VIA Plus™ TVs at up to 1080p resolution in 3D*. Not only that, but OnLive will also be integrated into VIZIO’s new line of VIA Blu-ray™ players, Android™ tablets and smartphones.
With the click of a remote control, or a tap on a tablet or phone touchscreen, VIZIO owners will be immediately transported into the OnLive Game Service, with the same state-of-the-art, instant game experience you get with the OnLive MicroConsole TV adapter, PCs, Macs®, and the iPad®. In fact, you’ll be able to save your OnLive game on one device, and instantly resume it on another device. Seamlessly.
Just as you can enjoy services such as Netflix® and Pandora® across virtually all consumer electronic devices, you’ll also be able to enjoy OnLive everywhere. The OnLive game experience is generated in the cloud, so as a device ages, the OnLive experience remains state-of-the-art. This is extremely important for long life-cycle devices like TVs: For example, in 5 years, your OnLive-integrated VIZIO TV will still be compatible with the latest, highest-performance games.
You can see OnLive technology built into VIZIO HDTVs at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas this week. The first OnLive-integrated VIZIO products will be in stores later this year.
Also at CES, we’ll be demoing the OnLive Game Service with SRS 5.1™ Surround Sound. What’s cool about SRS 5.1 is that, like OnLive, it works compatibly across all devices. It’s compatible with both SRS and non-SRS surround sound decoders. If you only have stereo or even mono sound, you’ll still get the best audio for the setup you have. Surround sound makes for an incredibly immersive experience when playing a game on the OnLive Service: you hear sounds all around you, and as you rotate your character, the sounds rotate around the room as if you are in the game. Combined with 3D, it is mind-blowing. SRS 5.1 surround sound will be an automatic free update to all users in early 2011.
We know most of you won’t be able check out this cool stuff and celebrate with us at CES, so we decided to give you another way to celebrate by offering the OnLive Game System at a special CES price.** Today through the last day of CES, Sunday Jan 9 at 11:59 PM PST, the OnLive Game System will be 33% off! You still get a free game of your choice and free PlayPack Beta. So, get ‘em while they’re hot and make your TV happy. To order a new OnLive Game System at 33% off today, click here.
All this in just the first week of 2011! Stay tuned for more great OnLive announcements as the year unfolds!

Nice! I was hoping to see OnLive integrated into a TV sometime this year, I just didn’t think it be announced so early!
Even though I already have a Micro-Console I guess my next TV is going to be a Vizio Via Plus!

everywhere but sadly not in germany
January 5, 2011 at 12:39 PM
Well they are not jet Phisically in Germany.
But I live in Germany too.
Got a free account and tried some demos.
Thinking of course I would be lucky just to connect.
But despite that I get a stable video image.
MY JAW DROPPED WHEN I SAW HOW FAST I GOT INTO THE GAME.
The only slightly noticeable delay I notice is when I’m entering commands or using the mouse. BUT GIVEN THAT I’M HALFWAY AROUND THE GLOBE YOU CAN’T CALL THAT BAD
Count me in when OnLive hits Germany

Is this available to current Vizio TV’s? I would like a quick response so I can get the MicroConsole while it’s on sale. Can’t wait to play Arkham Asylum in HD! Almost 100% too!

I’m very excited about surround sound since I have Surround speakers for my computer that rarely get used. I wonder what this Vizio announcement means or other Android devices though.

I haven’t tried this new concept but it seems sound & inovative. I’m wondering though are these a new set of games ( meaning run of the mill favorites such as mortal kombat, streetfighter ecet. ) & the overall support.

Hi, I’m aslo interested in knowing if Onlive will be on the Vizio as a software update, or just on the upcoming model.
I already have the console, but I’m looking into upgrading my TV to a Vizio 3D. Should I wait, or can I get one, then upgrade the software to get onlive on the TV. If so, will the BT controller work with the TV?

Long live OnLive! They’re either selling a ton of open-box units across America or Vizio customers are are remote-control-eating-dog owners, because we’re moving more Vizio remotes than any previous year. Of course, as WalMart’s own brand, Vizio has taken over the planet.

I think it’s great surround sound, the sound moves according to what happens on the screen is fantastic to be compatible, as well as the ability to change equipment and restore the saved game. That’s fantastic!

I see the android app is currently in beta release. Is the beta release available to the public, or do we have to wait until an official release? If the android beta is available, where can it be downloaded from?
