Ready for a Revolutionary Video Game Event?

Posted in OnLive 2009 with tags , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , on August 25, 2011 by Matt Jensen

It’s Time for ‘So You Think You Can Kill?!’

Imagine that it’s Aug. 30, one week after the launch of red-hot new release Deus Ex: Human Revolution. You power up the game in seconds on the OnLive platform and jump into the role of Adam Jensen, an ex-SWAT specialist whose mechanically augmented body gives him superhuman abilities. But there’s something else “superhuman” about this gaming experience: the very creators of the game are watching you live! You can hear them on voice chat. They’re commenting on your play. They’re cheering you on and tracking your decisions in a game that’s all about choices and the path you take. And if you do something truly spectacular, they’ll give you a special prize-packed accolade like the “Most Aggro Award” (best use of aggression) or the Stealth Award (best use of stealth).

Too bad there’s no technology to pull off something like that. Wait. Actually, there’s an OnLive Arena for that!

Oh yeah, on Aug. 30 from 6-9 PM (ET), you can join thousands of gamers and the Eidos developer team in celebrating the OnLive launch of Deus Ex Human Revolution in a one-of-a-kind spectating/playing event. You never know who might start spectating your play or what you might win. What you do know is just by playing Deus Ex: Human Revolution during the big event, you’ll automatically be entered to win a Grand Prize trip for two to Montreal (including airfare and a three-night hotel stay) where you’ll meet the game’s developers. This is what it means to play games the OnLive way.

Here’s how you get in on the fun:

  1. Make sure you set your permissions to allow spectators to chat with you. For instructions on how to set these permissions, read the “How do I control whether spectators can chat with me while I’m playing?” section of this knowledgebase article. The Deus Ex: Human Revolution developers will be contacting players by voice chat, so make sure you can hear ‘em!
  2. Play Deus Ex: Human Revolution on Aug. 30 during the hours of 6-9 PM (ET). The Eidos-Montreal Deus Ex team will be using Player Tags EMdev1, EMdev2, EMdev3, and they’ll be watching for gameplay greatness worthy of prizes. Make sure to add them as friends so as that improves your chance of being spectated.  Here are the awards that will be given out:
  • Stealth Award (Best use of stealth)
  • Non-violence Award (best use of social enhancements)
  • Most “Aggro” Award (best use of violence and aggression)
  • Hackiest Hacker Award (best at the Hacking mini-game)
  • Secret Path Award (best use of an alternate path)
  • Ouch Award (most painful death)

If you’re selected as the winner of one of the awards above, you’ll get an Eidos Deus Ex prize package that includes a signed poster, t-shirt, messenger bag and other cool stuff. You can check out the terms and conditions HERE.

This is going to be an event to remember, and it’s something special we’re doing for you, the OnLive Community. So, be there alongside me on Aug. 30, 6-9 PM (ET). And remember that EVERYONE who plays Deus Ex: Human Revolution during this event is automatically entered to win the Grand Prize trip/meet-and-greet. We’ll announce the Grand Prize winner on Sept. 6. See you at “So You Think You Can Kill?!”

Now Live: Parental Control, Group Voice Chat, Facebook Achievement Sharing

Parental Controls

Being a dad and a gamer on OnLive is a blast. Jumping into LEGO® Pirates of the Caribbean™ in co-op mode with multiple controllers and taking Brag Clip videos of our best moves to share with Mom is great family fun. But if you’re like me, you know there are a bunch of games in the Arena that some kids may not be ready for. Today we’ve taken the first step to enabling parents to manage how their kids to use the OnLive Game Service by sharing their own accounts in a restricted mode. Once an account is set up with Parental Controls, anyone accessing the Game Service with that account will experience whatever restrictions are applied. For example, no M-rated titles, no chatting with strangers, no Brag Clips, no spectating—just clean fun!  As a parent, enter your secret passcode to temporarily remove or adjust the restrictions and jump back into the action! Set up Parental Controls now or learn more.

Group Voice Chat Beta

OnLive gaming is a uniquely social experience—and it just got a lot easier to make the most out of those social experiences. OnLive has had two types of voice chat: Game Chat (for multiplayer sessions) and Spectator Chat (for chatting while watching someone play a game). Today we’ve added a third: Group Chat (for voice chatting with friends, no matter what they are doing). Here’s how it works: Let’s say you have 10 college buddies you like to play multiplayer games with. Now, you can create a group for them on the service that will persist from session to session. Instead of trying to track them down individually, now you can jump into a group voice chat no matter what they’re doing on the service. Voice chat while they’re playing a game, spectating others or just browsing the Marketplace … and if they’re not signed into OnLive, you can invite them to join you via integrated email notifications. Make one group for gamers you meet on the service who play a certain multiplayer game. Make another for friends you just want to hang with when you find a great game to spectate. It’s all about easily connecting—and yakking it up—with the gamers of your choice and making the most of your gameplay time. Of course, as always, OnLive voice chat works across all platforms and worldwide, so whether your friends are using a TV, PC, Mac or are across the pond when the UK service goes live in a month, OnLive voice chat just works. Learn more here.

Achievement Sharing to Facebook

First, we made sharing your gaming highs and lows a reality with automatic exporting of Brag Clip videos to Facebook. Now, your friends will recognize your crazy gamer skill with automatic Facebook sharing of Achievements. And if the game has Achievement Brag Clips configured, the epic video of your Achievement will also get shared! It feels so good collecting Facebook “likes” and comments as your friends anywhere and everywhere learn of your latest game progress—or even watch a Brag Clip video of you smashing that boss. Learn more here.

This newest wave of features is far from the last and comes in response to feature requests from the OnLive community. You just keep on playing and letting us know what you think, and we’ll keep pushing to make the OnLive platform better!

Batman: Arkham City Pre-order

Batman: Arkham City Pre-order – Get a Free OnLive Game System (or a Free Game)

I love it when a plan comes together.

This action-adventure stealth sequel to the wildly popular Batman: Arkham Asylum drops you into a sprawling super-prison that’s a ticking time bomb at the heart of Gotham. It’s filled with insane criminals and features an all-star cast of supervillains, including The Joker, The Riddler, Hugo Strange, Two-Face and Harley Quinn.

…it’s a good thing you’re Batman, eh Bruce?

This time you can dig into that famous utility belt and use your gadgets in combat! That’s right. Clamp onto a thug with the Batclaw, drag him to you and pummel him! Outnumbered? Drop a smoke pellet and vanish into thin air. Need to be somewhere? Launch an infinite number of zip lines in an infinite number of directions. It’s all about having the flexibility, ingenuity and stealth to deal with the massive amount of murderous scumbags heading your way. Arkham City is a great example of how far you can push a game—even when the original was a hit: new threats and challenges, redesigned gadgets, awesome main story, side stories, secrets, challenge rooms.  Rather than reinvent the wheel, everything has evolved …for the better!

You can tell we’re pretty excited about this game … along with the rest of the gaming community.  So we’re pulling out all the stops, offering some huge pre-order bonuses: Pre-order now and get a FREE OnLive Game System or a FREE game!  (You’ll get an email with a coupon code immediately when you pre-order).  ***THIS OFFER HAS CHANGED. PLEASE SEE UPDATED OFFER HERE***

Get ready to dispense justice. Batman-style. And get some free stuff in the process when you pre-order today!

F.E.A.R. 3 MULTIPLAYER JOINS PLAYPACK!

Posted in OnLive 2011 with tags , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , on August 1, 2011 by John Spinale

Only 6 weeks after its general release, we’re proud to announce that this awesome game joins our PlayPack Bundle.

Spend a little time pinned between waves of enemy troops and F.E.A.R. 3’s advancing Wall of Death and you’ll be glad your buddies have your back. Perhaps it’s why Day 1 Studios added not one, but four killer multiplayer modes to enhance the bone-chilling action of F.E.A.R. 3. There is strength in numbers, ya know.

This is also why we decided our PlayPack subscribers should have access to all of the F.E.A.R. 3 multiplayer gameplay starting today.  Dive into some “Soul King” and try to come out alive against 3 other soul-hungry spectres!

And, once you’re all played out (like skinny jeans), you can roll straight into the 70+ other awesome games in the PlayPack Bundle,  including other amazing games like Homefront Large-Scale Warfare Multiplayer, Borderlands, Hitman: Blood Money and Deus Ex: Game of the Year Edition.   When you’re surfing between that many great games, it’s kind of like channel surfing, but WAY more interesting.

So come help us celebrate the addition of F.E.A.R. 3 Multiplayer this Wednesday, August 3, at our Multiplayer Madness event! Whether you’ve got a PlayPack subscription or you’ve purchased or rented the game, just hop online between 8 and 11 p.m. (EDT) and face your fears.

See you on the other side.
